In Memory of William "Bill" White

William "Bill" Merrill White, Jr., of Oquossoc, Maine, died August 29, 2008 at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta, Maine. He was age 81. White, formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut, was the son of the late William Merrill White and Frances Mildred Atwood. He was born in Waban, Massachusetts, educated in Newton, Massachusetts, and following his military service during World War II in the U.S. Navy, was a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard University.

White was employed at Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. in Hartford, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1958. He retired in 1981 as director of Government Relations. He was a representative from W. Hartford, to the Greater Hartford Transportation District and served as its chair for many years.

In 1992, he and his wife, Marcia, retired to Rangeley, Maine, where he was a member of the Rangeley Friends of the Arts and the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. White is survived by his wife of 47 years; their four children and nine grandchildren.
