In Memory of Clyde Grant Lonergan

Clyde Grant Lonergan, FSA, MAAA, FCIA, EA, passed away on Dec. 13, 2009 in Las Vegas. He was born in Toronto, Canada, July 29, 1926, and studied mathematics at the University of Toronto where he received his master's degree. After graduation, Lonergan joined the actuarial staff of the Canada Life Assurance Company. In 1960 he moved to Detroit where he became vice president and actuary of McCoy, McLauren, and Lackey. He later became a consulting actuary for Coopers and Lybrand, Marsh and McClennan and Peat Marwick. In 1976, Lonergan moved to California to become a consulting actuary with Coates, Herfurth and England, and later National Associates. He began his own practice in Los Angeles in 1984, specializing in forensic actuarial work. In 1990, he retired to enjoy life in Las Vegas.

Lonergan enjoyed photography, developing and enlarging his own prints in the days before digital cameras. His other hobbies included body building, tennis, martial arts and flying a small plane.

He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 39 years.
