In Memory of Timothy (Tim) I. Montney
Timothy I. Montney, FSA, passed away February 19, 2009 at the age of 50 following a brief illness. He was born on January 1, 1959 in Garden City, Kan. He was a member of the Garden City High School Class of 1977. In 1981, he graduated from Rockhurst College in Missouri with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and philosophy. He also pursued graduate studies in theology at St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn., including a semester in Israel.
Montney began his actuarial career with Reliance Life Companies in Philadelphia in 1986, and also worked for Mennonite Mutual Aid Association and Security Benefit Life Insurance Company before joining the Torchmark companies in 2001. At Torchmark he served on staff with Liberty National Life and United Investors Life in Birmingham, Ala. for several years before joining the corporate actuarial staff in McKinney, Texas. He earned his Fellowship in the Society in 2003.
He was an active member of his church, St Gabriel the Archangel Parish, in McKinney, Texas. He and his wife Ellen loved to travel and also enjoyed playing tennis.
Montney is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Ellen Wolfe Montney, as well as four brothers, three sisters, one brother–in–law, and four sisters–in–law, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
