In Memory of Martin Stewart Huey
Martin "Marty" Stewart Huey, FSA, of Granby, Connecticut, and Provincetown, Massachusetts, lost his battle with cancer on March 18, 2010, at University of Connecticut Medical Center in Farmington, Connecticut. He was 70.
Son of the late Stewart and Elizabeth Huey, he was born in Hartford on June 28, 1939. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1961 and served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1961 to 1964.
His actuarial career initiated with Connecticut General Life (CIGNA) where he became a fellow in 1971. He had various assignments, in the end focusing on group insurance programs and financial reporting. At mid–career, he moved to Phoenix Mutual Life (Phoenix Companies) where he worked in financial reporting and then reinsurance. He served on several professional and industry committees. After retirement, he enjoyed working as tax support for H&R Block, and being a harbormaster in Provincetown.
Happiest at the beach in Provincetown, Huey liked working on his crossword puzzles or puttering around the house to the sound of waves breaking on the shore and boats in the harbor.
He was married to Brenda (Tastula) Huey for 48 years and is survived by her and their three children: Stew of Los Angeles, Kristen Mattson of Granby and Peter of Brewster, as well as a brother, Robert. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 27, in Tariffville, Connecticut.
