In Memory of J. Peter Marks
J. Peter Marks, ASA, died in 2010. He was the son of Howard and Florence Marks, was raised during the depression in Bloomsbury, and served as an RAF pilot in World War II. He qualified as an actuary in 1965 with the support of his wife Margaret Anne Conway and while raising three children Susan, Josephine and Anthony.
His first job was at Eagle Star Insurance in the 1930s. He then joined London Assurance after World War II and emigrated to Canada as its chief actuary in 1962. Marks retired from London Assurance (then RSA) in 1973 but continued work as a consulting actuary for Canadian General Life. He was the first executive director of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association in Ottawa. Marks ceased active work in the mid 1990s, but continued to enjoy mathematical recreations and puzzles and time with family.
