In Memory of David Soderquist

David Soderquist, FSA, of Des Moines, died April 21 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center following complications of a stroke. He was 72.

Soderquist attended Cattell Elementary, Harding Junior High and East High School. He graduated from Drake University in 1958, majoring in actuarial science. After graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Air Force.

He was a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a fellow of the Conference of Actuaries in Public Practice, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Soderquist served on the SOA's Education and Examination Committee.

During his career, he was employed at the Columbus Ohio office of Tillinghast, Nelson and Warren, the Ohio Insurance Department, AEGON, World Insurance, Capital American, Olympic National and Savings Bank Life. Soderquist retired to Des Moines after his career as both a life and health actuary.

He cared most about his country, his family and his dogs. He was a good father and good husband.

Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Bertha Soderquist. He is survived by his wife Madeline; daughter Erin Soderquist; grandsons Rob McMullen of Columbus, Ohio and Corey Soderquist of Des Moines; brother Charlie (Donna) Soderquist of Pleasant Hill; brother-in-law John (Karolyn) McKenna of San Carlos California; sister-in-law Cathy (Jim) Nelson of Sioux Falls South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, Soderquist's body has been donated to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota to further medical research and education. No services are planned.
