In Memory of Christopher Henry Wain

Christopher Henry Wain, FSA, MAAA, passed away on November 6, 2010 in his home in Encino, California with his family by his side. He was 91.

Wain was born in Toronto, Canada on November 21, 1918 and lived there and in NewYork City, before he and his mother, Eve Wain, moved to Los Angeles, California. As a child actor, he played roles on the stage and in some of the classic silent films. Following the death of his mother in 1932, Wain attended the Voorhis School for Boys in San Dimas, a home and school for orphaned or underprivileged boys.

He graduated from UCLA in 1940. Drafted in 1941, he served in the U.S. Army for nearly the full duration of World War II, and was a captain at the time of his discharge in 1946. He and Jeane Crawford Thomas met on the UCLA campus in 1947 and were married on June 26, 1948.At the time of his retirement in 1983, Wain was vice president and actuary at PrudentialInsurance Company.

During an active retirement, Wain and his wife travelled extensively, enjoyed classical music and theatre, and participated in the lives of their four grandchildren from birth to youngadulthood.

Wain is survived by Jeane, his wife of 62 years; a son, Christopher, Jr. of Beaverton, Oregon; adaughter and son-in-law, Margot and Robert Moss of Sherman Oaks; and fourgrandchildren.
