- Waiver of Dues for 2013
Waiver of Dues for 2013 Dues Waiver Application
As authorized by Article XI of the By-Laws or by action of the Board of Directors, waiver of due/fees is allowed for the amount in excess of 10 percent of base FSA or ASA dues under one or more of the following conditions:
- Entitlement to U.S. Social Security disability benefits or equivalent.
- Attainment of age 55 and retired, provided that the current year’s Earned Income (defined below) will not exceed the Earned Income Limit (defined below).
- Attainment of age 70.
- Active duty in the uniformed forces of the United States or Canada or equivalent.
- Full-time student at a recognized university or institution of higher learning.
- Active service in the Peace Corps or CUSO (Canadian Organization which Supports Alliance for Social Justice).
- Leave from paid employment or self-employment to raise children. A waiver will be granted when the current year’s Earned Income will not exceed the Earned Income Limit described below.
- Unemployment or self-employment and the current year’s Earned Income will not exceed the Earned Income Limit described below.
- Special circumstances which, in the judgment of the Admissions Committee, warrant waiver of dues or certification fees.
All waived members will be assessed 10 percent of base FSA, applicable ASA dues or CERA fees. Section memberships are not included in the waiver.
Earned Income is income from employment or self-employment sources. Earned Income includes severance, but does not include pension or investment income. The Earned Income Limit for this policy is defined as 80 percent of the U.S. per capita annual income as defined by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (rounded to the nearest thousand). The income limit for 2013 is $33,000.
Waivers for attainment of age 70 are awarded automatically based on age. All other waivers require, request for waiver that includes appropriate proof of status. Eligibility for waiver will be determined and processed by the Admissions Committee. Disability and age 55 and retired waiver requests need only apply once; all other waiver requests are annual waivers. All waivers are based on status as of January 1, the date dues are payable. Waiver applications are due by April 30.
- Reinstatement of Members
Reinstatement of Members
A Fellow or Associate who has resigned or who has been dropped for nonpayment of dues may be reinstated on recommendation of the Admissions Committee and subject to Board approval upon completion of an application for reinstatement, compliance with whatever requirements are then in effect, and payment of back dues (currently limited to two years' dues), applicable late fees and current dues.
Article VII of the Constitution of the Society imposes requirements on persons whose membership was terminated as a disciplinary matter.
- Subsidy Assistance
For the year 2013, the Society of Actuaries will continue to offer consideration for dues assistance to members residing in countries that have a per capita income equal to or less than one third the average of the United States and Canada as reported by the World Bank.
