offering actuarial science related–curriculum
-
It is time to update your university/college information in the listing of academic institutions offering actuarial science-related curriculum. The Joint CAS, CIA, SOA Committee on Academic Relations has updated the response form with some additional questions that will provide more information to potential students. So, please check out the updated form at the following link Response Form and answer the new additional questions. Any college/university changes that are currently sent in will not be reflected until following the newly redesigned SOA web launch the beginning of the second quarter 2007.
School submissions can be updated on an ongoing basis via the form on the SOA website at the above link. A table that provides criteria when categorizing your program is also available on the Categorization Criteria.
The criteria table reflects courses approved for Validation by Educational Experience (VEE). To qualify for one of the four categories, Introductory Undergraduate, Advanced Undergraduate, Graduate–Education, and Graduate–Education and Research, each program must satisfy all criteria. However, it should be noted that the curriculum criterion only requires that a course is available and has been taught at least once within the last two years (new courses, within the next two years). The curriculum criterion does not require the course be compulsory for graduation. It is envisioned that schools in the first three categories will be focused primarily on student education, whereas schools in the last category would have a significant emphasis on research and Ph.D. possibilities. Institutions not qualifying for the categories above but providing guidance and/or classes for students interested in pursuing an actuarial career will be classified as "Other."
The college listing is available on both the CAS and SOA websites in the Academic Community and Exams & Jobs/Academic Relations sections, respectively. It is also posted on the jointly sponsored CAS/SOA website, which is designed for students considering the actuarial profession.
Please contact Gena Long (ph: 847.706.3582), or Erika Schulty (ph: 847.706.3519) if you have any questions or need additional information. Thank you for supporting the listing of academic institutions offering actuarial science related-curriculum.
