Vision Statement:
The challenges faced by the SOA have never been greater and they present tremendous opportunity for our profession. As a risk professional for most of my career the SOA's goals to promote actuaries globally as leaders in risk management is of extreme importance. The SOA Board has taken a number of steps to address this strategic issue. Most notably is the creation of the CERA credential.
The SOA has taken steps to ensure that the CERA credential has an educational quality needed by prospective employers and is actively marketing the credential and the SOA brand. We need to sustain our current efforts and do even more. Greater emphasis on promoting the credential within the traditional actuarial marketplace and in nontraditional markets is needed especially awareness amongst employers, recruiters and universities. Although a somewhat daunting task, we need to seek ways to place actuaries into the nontraditional ERM hiring pipeline.
While we promote our credential we also need to seek ways to make it global. The ideal solution is to have the currently unnamed "XRX" credential become CERA. I have been active in this effort and will continue to be. The SOA Board has voted, at its June meeting, to pursue the signing of the Global Treaty.
I am excited about the prospects for our profession and the CERA credential in particular and look forward to assisting in that effort.
