To the Members of the SOA Technology Section
The SOA Technology Section Council has been busy on several initiatives. This email message is to bring you up to date on these activities. You will see that we're working on projects intended to advance the technology agenda. We hope this work is important to you as a member of our Section. If that's the case, please follow up with the individuals who are leading these efforts, as they would certainly welcome your assistance. Here are three examples:
Newsletter (CompAct)
Just over three years ago, we set out to revitalize the CompAct newsletter. Under the guidance of my predecessors Phil Gold and Paula Hodges, with editorial leadership from Shyamal Kumar, CompAct has become a regular quarterly newsletter, with quality articles. The editor role was successfully transitioned to Howard Callif earlier this year. If you haven't seen our recent editions they can be found here. We are currently putting together the July edition, so, if you have any topics that interest you, please contact us. Also, we are offering a prize of an iPod for the best article published this year and all the articles considered for this award will be printed in a special October review edition. Any questions? Contact Howard at howard@callif.org.
Rate Manager
Many of you have found the Rate Manager, originally developed by Steve Strommen, a popular and useful tool. Responding to concerns regarding the accuracy of the rates, Joseph Liuzzo has been leading the initiative to review and update rates. If you can help with this, we would appreciate all the help we can get; if you can't spare your own time but have an intern student that is not fully utilized, perhaps they can help. Contact Joseph Liuzzo at jliuzzo@tiaa-cref.org if you can help out in any way.
Scenario Manager
The Scenario Manager will provide a tool to store and exchange economic scenarios using a standard format. The tool has been developed and documented and is ready to enter beta testing; we will be looking for volunteers soon. Contact Carl Nauman at carl.nauman@ggy.com for more information.
Section Elections
Finally, it's time for council elections; if you've already spent some time volunteering as a speaker, moderator or on one of our committees, you might be interested in how this all gets done ... or who decides how to make it happen. If you are a leader, or want to develop your leadership skills, being on the Council is an excellent opportunity that you can't pass up! If you're interested in getting your name on the ballot, give me a call or email, and I'll provide more details. We'll be submitting nominations for three new council members, to serve three–year terms. We need to submit candidates soon, so call or email today: kpledge@insightdecision.com or 905.475.3282 x 2
Your council continues to meet via teleconference once per month. If you have something for us to consider as we evolve our section, please let us know.
