To the Members of the SOA Technology Section
It's hard to believe that it has been almost two months since my last update. We continue to make progress on the initiatives that I reported in previous e–mails, and I would like to highlight a few of them.
Newsletter (CompAct)
The July 2008 edition of the newsletter is now available. This latest edition includes articles on temporal modeling, illustrations systems, predictive modeling, technology trends and a book review on 'Spreadsheet Check and Control'. This edition also features a new column on open–source software and projects from the web called Cool Tech, contributed by Matt Wilson.
The newsletter is available in PDF format, click here to view it.
We are currently putting together the September edition, so, if you have any topics that interest you or would like to contribute an article, please contact Howard at howard@callif.org.
Illustration Systems Webinar
Novarica's US Life/Annuity Illustrations Systems 2008Q2 report, was published at the end of May, and is available at a special discount rate of $975 (35% off regular price) to SOA members. A summary of the report is in the newsletter and online at Novarica.com. The report will be discussed in a special free webinar open to SOA members only, which will be held on Monday, July 14 at 2 p.m. EDT. SOA members may register at
Gotomeeting.com
Predictive Modeling Seminar
Claim Analytics and the SOA are co–sponsors of a seminar on predictive modeling that will be held Nov. 10–11, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare, Chicago, Ill. This two day introductory course offers life actuaries a practical, working understanding of predictive modeling tools including Neural Networks, General Linear Models, CART, and others.
We hope this work is important to you as a member of our Section. If that's the case, please follow up with the individuals who are leading these efforts, as they would certainly welcome your assistance.
Your council continues to meet via teleconference once per month. If you have something for us to consider as we evolve our section, please let us know.
