To the members of the SOA Technology Section
This has been a very active year for the Technology Section Council. This update will keep you up to date with developments.
Newsletter (CompAct)
ComPact has been the focus of our efforts this year to improve communication with our membership. We are now aiming for four issues a year, with the October issue to be available in print form to all attendees at the SOA Annual meeting in Chicago. Not only are we increasing the number of issues, we are also trying to improve the content of each issue.
We are planning a special issue of CompAct featuring a debate on Open versus Closed Systems.
We would love to hear from you on this or any other topic. Please contact the editor Shyamal Kumar. We would also invite you to respond to the published articles.
CompAct Article of the Year Prize 2006–7
We will be awarding a prize for the best article published in CompAct between June 2006 and May 2007. Now's your chance to win an iPod Shuffle® 1GB (or equivalent mp3 player).
Web Pages
We now have the updated web pages we've been promising. To find them click here.
Tim Rozar is our web liaison this year. Please contact him with your suggestions.
SOA Meetings
Spring is here and I hope you will have the chance to attend the sessions our section is sponsoring or cosponsoring at the Spring Meetings.
These are:
- IT Investment: Actuaries as stakeholders (May 25th, June 21st)
- Health Care and Information Technology: Looking behind the wizard's curtain (June 22nd)
Thanks to Chuck Fuhrer for coordinating these sessions.
For the Annual Meetings we have assembled a formidable slate:
- Competing on Analytics (October 16th)
- Project management for Actuaries (October 16th)
- Hot Breakfast: Technology - Is the insurance industry doing enough? (October 17th)
- Is Your Information Safe? (October 17th)
- Information Technology in Financial Reporting (October 17th)
Kevin Pledge is our Annual Meeting Coordinator and he would like to hear from you if you would like to speak on one of these topics, or if you know someone who might.
It's not all work - we are arranging a social event on the Sunday evening before the meeting. Please reserve the time from 7pm to 9pm on October 15th. We're eating out in style at Harry Caray's!
I hope you'll join us.
