The Asset–Liability Management Specialty Guide Task Force, commissioned by the Society's Finance Practice Area Professional Education and Development Committee first developed an asset/liability management specialty guide in 1998. With the growing importance of this dynamic topic, the group has released an extensively updated guide for 2003.

What's so special about ALM?

SOA's newly released ALM Specialty Guide answers that question and offers a roadmap for practitioners seeking to enhance their knowledge of asset liability management (ALM).

This new publication taps into the expertise of the ALM Specialty Guide Task Force (link: new link – investment section committees), a seasoned group of ALM professionals, and provides direction to anyone in search of new or updated knowledge of ALM. The guide offers a wealth of information on ALM's differing applications to financial security systems, such as life or health insurance, property and casualty insurance, and pensions.

Each section of the guide provides an introduction and commentary on a specific subtopic of ALM and its related issues, and includes a variety of additional references on the topic. The guide is designed to help users tackle current issues related to managing assets and liabilities, including recent discussions regarding pension plan funding.
