EVM Notes—October 12, 2006
Attendees
Bob Guth (Leader), Max Rudolph, Tom Edwalds, Kevin Strobel, Cliff
Angstman, Bernie Rabinowitz
Secretary for call: Max Rudolph
Web liaison: Kevin Strobel
- The minutes from the meeting of July 11, 2006 are posted on our
group's web site.
- RMS update: The EVM Committee is willing to commit to running a
session at the ERM Symposium similar to the one done in 2006
where it was a workshop format discussing various extreme
events. Max will find out if the session is selected and report
back. He will also confirm that speakers do not pay to attend
the seminar. [Max later found out that the extreme events
proposal was not accepted, so we will not be presenting that
session.]
- Paul Embrechts seminar: The group is interested in either
seeing the materials from the seminar or having someone who
attended participate on a further call. Max will check with
Michel Rochette to see what options are possible.
- SOA influenza research project: The project will report the
life piece before year end and have continued the discussion
regarding insured versus population mortality. There currently
is a Delphi study ongoing to get the input of other experts on
this and other issues.
- Harry Panjer's new book, Operational Risks: Modeling Analytics,
is now available. It is a survey book covering an undergraduate
course. It also looks to provide a good review of statistics
and introduction to copulas and coherent measures. Max is
discussing with Harry to see how he would like to publicize the
book.
- ERM Risk Poll: The group is interested in helping with the Risk
Poll but not with the Risk Index project. The Risk Management
Section Council is meeting in conjunction with the annual
meeting and Max will let the group know the outcome. [Max
reported later that the ERM Risk Poll is still under
consideration, but has not yet been approved.]
- Bob reported that Wikipedia featured an article on actuaries on
September 10.
- Bob will work with Jeremy Webber to schedule the next call for
November 30 at 10 am Central.
