Life Treaty Provisions
The Treaty Committee of the Reinsurance Section was charged with
producing a document that could serve as a checklist during treaty preparation and
review of a standard life reinsurance agreement. The document produced covers the
purpose of each provision, the common elements, common variations and problems that
may arise. It is the intent of the Committee for this document to serve as an
objective guide only. It does not include an exhaustive listing of common practices
nor is it intended to serve as a definitive standard of practice to be used in the
resolution of disputes. The Committee recognizes that ceding companies and insurers
are free to negotiate terms that meet the needs of both parties and may organize
the elements of their treaties somewhat differently than presented here. In order
to assure a balanced perspective, both the Committee and its group of reviewers
have consisted of representatives from ceding companies and reinsures.
