In this session, representatives from the Social Security Administration review the program’s recent experience, discuss the nature of the current challenges, and offer insights on potential solutions.

The Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program has faced numerous challenges recently, including a rising volume of claims and a rapidly declining trust fund. Backlogs of SSDI claims have also led to long lags before claimants are approved for benefits. These issues pose challenges for private long-term disability (LTD) insurers, whose plans typically offset for SSDI benefits received by claimants. The panelists in this session will discuss the way in which SSDI trends are affecting group disability insurers.
