In Memory of Henry F. Scheig
Henry F. Scheig, Mequon, passed away on Feb. 3, 2014. He was 89.
He was born June 14, 1924, in Warren, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Beardsley Scheig; daughter, Kathryn Scheig of Whitefish Bay; son, William Beardsley Scheig (Rebecca) and grandchild, Alison Christine of Maple Grove, Minnesota; and sister, Ruth Deimling of Fort Wayne IN. Brother Paul, daughter, Margaret Ann Scheig and grandson, Andrew Beardsley Scheig preceded him in death.
Henry was a WWII veteran. He graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA, in 1949 and received his membership in the Society of Actuaries in 1952. He spent five years in the Actuarial Department of the Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in Fort Wayne IN. He joined Aid Association for Lutherans in Appleton WI, in 1954. He devoted 40 years to that organization, 22 as President and CEO and Chairman. He retired as Chairman in 1994. After retiring, Henry and his wife spent their winters in Fort Myers, Florida and their summers at their cottage in Door County. In 2004, they moved back to Wisconsin and made their home at Newcastle Place in Mequon, but continued to spend summer months at Sturgeon Bay.
Henry was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thiensville WI. He enjoyed woodworking, basketry, woodcarving, cross country and downhill skiing and traveling. He has visited all seven continents.
Henry served on the boards of H.C. Prange Co., Sheboygan, Wisconsin and Wisconsin Power and Light, Madison, Wisconsin. He also served on the boards of the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts. He was president of the Bay-Lakes Boy Scout Council 1982-1984.
