In Memory of Fernando J. Troncoso

June 21, 2017

Fernando J. Troncoso, ASA 1980, passed away May 22, 2017 in Austin, TX.

Fernando was born January 15, 1951 in Mexico City to diplomat parents.  He soon moved to Canada and Chicago before finally settling in Mexico City again for his school years, setting a precedent for his jet setting adult career. He was a loving brother, a loving father, and a loving and loyal friend, but most importantly a loving husband. He married Alicia in 1982 and their happy marriage produced Andrea and Daniel.

He was a graduate of the charter class of the Actuarial School of Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City and in 1976 went on to receive his MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, beginning his lifelong affinity for the Longhorns. Fernando was the first person of Mexican origin to become a member of the Society of Actuaries, completing those exams in 1980.  Fernando was also licensed as an actuary by the government in Mexico.

He worked for various firms before beginning his own actuarial firm, Troncoso Consulting Group. Actuarial work was his life's passion. He was successful not only because of his brilliant mind but also his ebullient personality, his generous spirit and discipline, and hard work.

He loved sports, especially soccer, and piano - he was a masterful player and played with perfect pitch.  His devout Catholic faith sustained him throughout his life.  He was a man deeply motivated by his faith, strength, and convictions, and was honest to a fault.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Carlos and Teresa.  He is survived by his wife Alicia, son Daniel, daughter Andrea (Clint) and grandchildren Elias, Amelia, and Lucia and his sister Victoria.

Donations in Fernando’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
