In Memory of Charles M Underwood II

October 12, 2017

Charles Marshall “Chuck” Underwood II, FSA 1978, passed away in the early morning on Tuesday August 15, 2017, in the privacy of his home, after an arduous battle with a long time illness.  Chuck was born in Elkhorn, Wisconsin on August 27, 1941 to Ann and Edward Underwood.  He grew up in West Medway and Sharon, Massachusetts. He was a highly ranked New England junior tennis player, and graduated from Middlesex School. He graduated with Harvard University's class of 1963, after which he completed his masters in Actuarial Science at Northeastern University. Chuck was married to Beth Barnett for 40+ years and lived in several locations in New England.  They retired in Scotts, Michigan.

In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his sister Nancy Callahan, brother Ted (Greer) Underwood, and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces. Chuck was known for his stoic nature but anyone who knew him could get him talking about the most recent game in season as he was an avid sports lover. He was a longtime member of the Society of Actuaries, the Newfoundland Club of America and Great Lakes Newfoundland Club which meant a great deal to him.  His brother and sister are so appreciative of the wonderful care-giving that Chuck's wife Beth provided as his health steadily declined. Chuck lived a full life.  His wife Beth, his entire family, and all his friends will dearly miss him. Memorials in Chuck’s name may be made to the Newfoundland Club of America
