2009-13 Individual Payout Annuity Experience Report & Pivot Tables

The Individual Annuity Experience Committee of the Society of Actuaries has completed an experience study of individual payout annuities, covering calendar years 2009 through 2013. The intent of this study is to provide recent annuitant mortality experience which can be compared to the 2005-08 Individual Payout Annuity Experience. The accompanying pivot tables allow the experience to be examined in more detail.

A second Excel file was published in June 2018 providing data by individual contract duration years. A new version of the report was published in August 2018. A description of the changes made to the report can be found in its Preface. In addition, the two Microsoft Excel files published with this report provide updated pivot tables, which access the database and provide the breakdowns described in the updated report.

Another new version of the report was published in December 2022. This report includes updated Actual-to-Expected ratios by contract to correctly reflect exposure for joint lives, giving no recognition to the secondary annuitant while in a joint status with the primary annuitant. The ratios by amount already reflected this correctly. The Microsoft Excel pivot tables published here match the updated report when the “Lives Indicator” variable is used to deselect the “BS” option.

Please note that these files may take several minutes to download.
