Agenda

This SOA-sponsored course provides actuaries with a structured learning opportunity on the subject of professionalism and ethics. This course is a combination of presentation and discussion. There will be some interaction, which includes class participation in case studies discussed in small groups.

This boot camp will cover the code of conduct and the Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOPs). It will also discuss qualifications, the ABCD and the Actuarial Standards Board (ASB). Statements of actuarial opinion and actuarial communications will also be on the agenda.

A portion of the agenda will be led by a state regulator and will relate to actuarial professionalism when interacting with state regulators. Ample time will be provided for participants to ask questions to all members of the faculty.

This course will highlight topics of particular interest to health actuaries, including change brought about by the Affordable Care Act and health reform, as well as other evolution in the regulation of health insurance. In addition to commercial health coverage, it will touch on Medicare Advantage. Presenters will consider subjects and situations that may challenge an actuary's resolve to adhere to professional values and standards and will discuss best and appropriate practices.
