A new wave of professionals, the data scientists, are pushing actuaries from the coveted top spots on the best jobs lists. In fact, the Harvard Business Review called data scientist "The Sexiest Job of the 21st Century" (October 2012). The good news, though, is that you can be both a data scientist and an actuary-a match that can ensure (or perhaps, insure?) your continued market value in a world increasingly dependent upon predictive analytics.

Commercial conferences on predictive analytics (PA), big data, predictive models, data analytics and similar titles promise wonderful returns for attendees; but they typically focus on manufacturing and other non-insurance applications.

The first annual SOA Predictive Analytics Symposium was organized in collaboration with the Predictive Analytics and Futurism Section. It features multiple tracks for all levels of those interested in PA.

  • Beginner/Implementer Track (B/I): A hands-on, productive approach into a classification and regression tree or a random forest.
  • Manager/Supervisor Track (M/S): A non-technical look at how PA can help your company, within your specific area of practice.
  • Advanced Practitioner Track (AP): A look at cutting-edge techniques, such as deep learning with tensor flow and advanced distribution choices.

Alternatively, a person strong in one aspect of PA but interested in both the breadth and depth of PA can choose to mix and match sessions throughout the symposium.

Whatever your level of interest in PA, as a manager, implementer or practicing expert, this conference will provide you with the knowledge to jump to the next level!
