Arnaud D. Bensoussan
Vice President, Longevity Risk Transfer
Prudential Financial

Arnaud Bensoussan is a vice president of Product & Market Development within the Longevity Risk Transfer segment of Prudential’s Investment & Pension Solutions business. Arnaud is responsible for leading the firm’s ventures in international longevity reinsurance, with a focus on North America, Europe and Australia. He is also charged with spearheading efforts to create innovative product solutions that facilitate longevity risk transfer transactions.

Arnaud joined Prudential in 2013 after spending 10 years in capital markets structuring and risk management, and three years in strategic consulting. Arnaud earned a Diplôme d’Ingénieur in Mathematics and Physics from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, France. He also holds a Master of Science in Operations Research from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Shaun Downey
John Hancock Financial Services

Shaun leads all aspects of the Ceded Reinsurance operations including treaty development and TAI administration. He has had a 25+ year career with Manulife/John Hancock and for most of his career he led operations for Manulife's Reinsurance division including administration, claims, treaties and audit functions, In 2007, Shaun assumed leadership for the John Hancock Reinsurance Ceded Administrative functions. He has been a text and exam reviewer for LOMA for more than a decade and was chair of the Reinsurance Administration Professionals Association from 2009 to 2013.

Michele Jacobson
Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP

Since 2008, Michele Jacobson has been named a "leading individual" in Insurance Dispute Resolution by Chambers USA and is listed in Who's Who Legal: Insurance & Reinsurance for 2017. As a known leader in complex insurance and reinsurance matters, she has represented ceding companies, reinsurers, retrocessionaires, liquidators, intermediaries and program managers in a wide range of matters in federal and state courts and before arbitration panels throughout the country. These matters have involved misrepresentations in connection with the placement of reinsurance, disputes as to the coverage provided by treaties and policies, failures to supervise underwriting and claim activities, ECO liability, reinsurance allocation, and disputes involving program manager agreements. Ms. Jacobson has also handled insurance coverage disputes including policy defenses such as late notice of claims, occurrence and the pollution exclusion, and represents clients in insurance regulatory matters.

A member of Stroock’s Executive Committee, Ms. Jacobson takes pride in the firm’s diversity initiatives. She is a founder and current co-chair of the Stroock Women Affinity Group, which focuses on mentoring and career development. Ms. Jacobson is a graduate of Brandeis University (summa cum laude, with Highest Honors in Politics), and the New York University School of Law, where she was an Editor of the Law Review.

Jeffrey Stanton Katz, FSA, MAAA

Jeff Katz is Managing Director - Life & Health Products Hub Head Americas at Swiss Re. He joined Swiss Re in April 2011. Jeff has more than twenty-five years of experience in life and health reinsurance. He spent the first ten years of his career designing and developing individual life and annuity products. Jeff is a Chicago native who received both his Bachelor of Arts in History and Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Bar Association. He has been a member of the ACLI Reinsurance Committee and the SOA Reinsurance Section Council. He currently volunteers on the Council’s LEARN (Life Education and Reinsurance Navigation) initiative.

David R. Lang, ASA, MAAA

David Lang is a vice president within the Longevity Risk Transfer segment of Prudential’s Investment & Pension Solutions business. He is responsible for leading transaction-related activities in the longevity risk transfer market. Most recently, David was the primary deal lead for two transactions providing reinsurance of longevity risk for 2 billion USD worth of annuity and group pension risk to the UK primary insurer market. David joined Prudential Retirement in 2000 and held various positions within the Retirement Plans Strategies Group, where he provided Pension Consulting to U.S. corporate pension plan sponsors. In 2008, David joined Prudential’s Pension Risk Transfer team. Dave holds a bachelor’s degree with a focus in actuarial science from Bryant University. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Greg LaRochelle
Head of Risk Reporting & Reinsurance

Greg LaRochelle is the Head of Risk Reporting & Reinsurance for RBC. Leveraging his experience at 2 global reinsurance companies and having joined RBC in 2007, Greg has acquired a significant range of experience and expertise across a variety of insurance business lines including Life & Health (Individual & Group), Home & Auto, Travel, and Pension De-Risking.

In this role Greg is responsible for all aspects of reinsurance including but not limited to treaties, systems, strategy, administration, risk management, as well as financial reporting. During his tenure, Greg has championed numerous initiatives focused on optimized reinsurance solutions to balance RBC’s exposure within the risk appetite while steadily improving each of the line of business’s portfolio performance. Greg is particularly known for his strategic leadership, risk management oversight, collaboration and community.

In addition to leading the reinsurance business, Greg is a key member of the Group Risk Management Insurance Team responsible for risk management oversight for Insurance. Outside of RBC, Greg is the Chair of the Reinsurance Administration Professionals Association and has previously executive positions on the LOMA Society of Toronto.

Ari Joseph Lindner, FSA, MAAA

Munich Re

Ari Lindner is Senior Vice President, US Structured Solutions at Munich Re. He is responsible for development and growth of customized life, fixed annuity, and variable annuity guarantee reinsurance transactions that include material financial market risk, such as equity performance guarantees, interest rate exposure, and foreign exchange risk. In his role at Munich Re, he works closely with insurers in North America to identify and satisfy their strategic risk and capital management objectives. Ari has spent the last 20 years of his career focused primarily, but not exclusively, on variable annuity guarantee reinsurance. Prior to joining Munich Re in late 2015, Ari spent 15 years at a major global insurance / reinsurance company where he was responsible for building and managing the company’s variable annuity guarantee reinsurance business. In addition, he had responsibility for overseeing risk, underwriting, and claims functions for the life insurance and reinsurance businesses. Ari holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and he is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Hugh T. McCormick
Duane Morris LLP

Hugh McCormick is a partner in the New York office of Duane Morris L.L.P., an international law firm with numerous offices in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.  Previously he was executive vice president at Scottish Re Group Limited, a global life reinsurance company, and a partner in the insurance and tax practice groups at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP (later Dewey & LeBoeuf). Mr. McCormick has advised domestic and international insurance and reinsurance companies on regulatory, corporate and tax matters, including credit for reinsurance and related issues, for more than 30 years. From 1977 to 1981 he served as an attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service.  He has a B.A. from the University of Michigan (1968), a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law (1977), and an LL.M. (taxation) from Georgetown University (1980).

Mr. McCormick is a contributing author of Insurance Industry Mergers and Acquisitions (Society of Actuaries, 2005) and International Life Insurance (Chancellor Publications Ltd. (UK), 2002). He is a member of ARIAS U.S., and the Reinsurance and Tax Sections of the Society of Actuaries. He has participated as a moderator or speaker in many ReFocus and Society of Actuaries meetings, including the Advanced Reinsurance Seminar (2016), and the Columbia University School of Professional Studies’ M.S. program in Actuarial Science.

Legal 500-U.S. notes Mr. McCormick’s “deep life insurance knowledge, experience and expertise,” and he was honored with the 2016 Client Choice Award by Lexology/ILO in the area of insurance and reinsurance (New York).

Timothy S. Paris, FSA, MAAA

Tim is chief executive officer at Ruark Consulting LLC, which aims to be the platform and industry benchmark for principles-based insurance data analytics and risk management. Fueled by data contributed each year from companies currently comprising approximately 70% of the variable and fixed indexed annuity markets, Ruark’s industry experience studies provide actionable quantitative insights into complex and interrelated behavioral factors such as surrenders, partial withdrawals, annuitizations, and mortality, based on a combination of expert judgment and advanced analytics such as predictive modeling techniques. As a reinsurance broker, Ruark has placed and continues to administer dozens of bespoke treaties totaling over $1.5 billion of reinsurance premium and $30 billion of account value, and also offers reinsurance audit and administration services. Tim is a frequent speaker at industry events on the topics of longevity, policyholder behavior, product guarantees, and reinsurance.

Donald D. Solow, FSA, MAAA
Vista Life & Casualty Reinsurance Company

Don is currently President of Vista Life & Casualty Reinsurance Company and Manager of Regatta Holdings LLC, which invests in and advises start-up reinsurance enterprises.

Prior to this, Don was a Director at Wells Fargo Securities (formerly Wachovia Securities) from 2006 to 2011. At Wells, he was responsible for heading the insurance solutions team, originating over $500 million of transactions in insurance-related business.

Before joining Wachovia, he held senior positions within the reinsurance industry, including serving as Senior Vice President of ACE Financial Solutions in New York. In this capacity, Mr. Solow managed the life, health, and annuity reinsurance division, and was responsible for sourcing, structuring, and pricing financial and hybrid reinsurance and risk financing transactions.

He became a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1992, and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1993.

Mr. Solow earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from New York University’s School of Engineering in 1988.

Ryan M. Stevens, FSA, MAAA
VP, Structuring and Product Specialist

Ryan Stevens is Vice President, Structuring and Product Specialist in RGA’s Global Financial Solutions division. He is responsible for providing structuring support and specialized expertise in the development of new asset intensive and financial reinsurance transactions for the North American region of Global Financial Solutions.

Ryan joined RGA in 2006 and has had roles primarily in pricing, product development, and risk management, after starting his career with Conseco Services, LLC in 2001.  Prior to his current role, Ryan worked on the GFS North America Pricing team where he led a team of actuaries in designing and pricing asset-intensive and financial reinsurance structures for clients as well as managing a team responsible for underwriting and in force management of RGA’s stable value business. Ryan was also part of the team that created and launched RGA’s stable value business in 2012.

Ryan received a B.S. in actuarial science from Butler University, and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).

Xueli Zhang, FSA, MAAA
VP and Actuary

Xueli Zhang is a VP and Actuary for the Global Financial Solutions Division of RGA.  She is responsible for developing financial solutions for RGA clients to help manage their capital needs and insurance risks.  She leads a team of pricing actuaries to model, price and review various types of reinsurance transactions.  She also monitors emerging trends in pricing, risk management, accounting and taxation that are relevant to the reinsurance market.  Prior to joining RGA in 2008, Xueli was a Senior Manager for the Actuarial Department of Aflac where she began her career in 2000.  Her experience at Aflac included reporting on the performance of the company’s major lines of business, monitoring the loss ratio experience of new products, implementing measures to maintain the rate stability and valuation.  Xueli presents frequently at SOA meetings to various audiences covering topics including capital-motivated reinsurance, Actuarial Guideline 48 and reserve financing.  She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a CFA Charterholder.
