Update on the Valuation Actuary Symposium: The Society of Actuaries has made the decision to cancel the Valuation Actuary Symposium as a result of the weather warning in Texas. With the adoption of VM-20, companies are in a unique position to make a strategic decision on when they will start reserving under a principle-based approach. Although many believe that by using the three-year transition period their organizations can focus on other company initiatives and benefit by learning from challenges encountered by early adopters, there are steps that need to be taken now to ensure a smooth transition to PBR by the end of the three-year transition. This session will focus on companies that have decided to "wait" to adopt PBR for one or more products until after 2017, and what activities they should be doing now prepare for a later adoption of PBR.

At the conclusion of the session, attendees will:

  • Know the importance of a PBR implementation roadmap and planning the transition to PBR;
  • Understand the timeline for getting PBR products to market and subsequently reserving for them; and
  • Learn about some common roadblocks to implementation and how to build in adequate time to plan for these.

How the live virtual session works and what it includes

Connect to the Internet to participate in the session as it takes place at the 2017 Valuation Actuary Symposium in San Antonio. The virtual broadcast streams the video, audio and PowerPoint slides through your computer during the session. As a virtual participant, you will be allowed to interact and submit your questions for live response during the session.

You will participate in the virtual session via the Internet. A computer with Internet access and sound capabilities is required. No other equipment is necessary. On Aug. 25, 2017 before 2:00 p.m. CT you will be sent detailed instructions via email including the web address for accessing the program. Any handouts that are available will also be sent. You will follow along with both the slide presentation and the audio portion of the broadcast over the Internet.

The registration fee includes:

  • One access code to the live virtual session;
  • One Internet connection;
  • One phone connection (to be used only if experiencing sound issues or if in a conference room with a group); and
  • One set of presentation materials.

Please note that each access code may only be used for one location , even if you register for more than one participant.
