Presenter(s): George Kau, FSA, Executive Director, Actuarial Services for Malaysia, KPMG Malaysia

The intent of the presentation is to provide the audience an overview of the motor insurance pricing methodology in the general insurance setting. It is despite a short presentation, it will highlight some of the good practices and important skills desired by the actuaries to associate a better-quality experience study with big data. At the end of the presentation, Mr. Kau will relate the topic of discussion with the rationale of SOA’s pre-requisite for Predictive Analytics exam prior to student achieving the ASA credential.

This is unconventional for life and health insurance actuaries in the greater Asia region. However, the application is common in other building blocks such as customer behavior management and fraud prediction. Employers and READI are recommended to include Predictive Analytics subject in the training plan.

The main objective of this session is to provide an overview of the different techniques and big data tools which can be used to extract and interpret information from raw text data using Natural Language Processing with a focus on life insurance. Life Insurers today are collecting huge volumes of text data though heterogeneous sources which if harnessed in a streamlined process can lead to enhanced decision making for pricing, product development, experience studies etc. This session would introduce the technical framework which can be used to derive insights from unstructured data like raw text.
