Medicare Advantage: Attendee List Medicare Advantage evolves annually with new rule announcements and product changes, but these new developments do not lessen the actuaries’ workload or make things easier during the all-too-limited “bid season.” This course will cover recent changes to the bid instructions and other regulations that affect Bid Pricing Tool (BPT) development, the relationship between the Part C and D BPTs, as well as the Plan of Benefits Package (PBP). This boot camp course has been offered annually for the past ten years and has emphasized Part C pricing with some coverage of Part D. This year, the course will be two days long with a primary focus on Part C and a half-day specifically dedicated to Part D. The course targets beginner/intermediate through intermediate level participants. Beginners are welcome but should thoroughly prepare prior to the course. All participants, regardless of level, are expected to complete assigned reading and preparation in advance of the course. Participants will work with Part C and Part D BPTs. Each BPT is a complex multi-sheet Excel workbook that CMS requires actuaries to develop and complete to submit a Medicare Advantage bid. All participants should familiarize themselves with the structure and worksheets for Part C and D BPTs prior to the course. This course focuses on pricing, product knowledge and regulatory requirements that affect MA-PD. Some HMO and/or PPO health pricing experience is a prerequisite for this course. Basic knowledge of fee-for-service Medicare program eligibility and benefits is also expected. Many advanced health pricing concepts will be addressed during the course. Attendees should have prerequisite knowledge of coordination of benefits, member cost-sharing, trends, and IBNR. The course will include class discussion, as well as hands-on, in-class exercises conducted in small groups, which past participants have found highly useful. Participants should bring laptop computers and will work with peers to develop an MA BPT. MA-PD is a rigorously regulated product, and the pricing process is highly structured. Documentation, desk review and bid audits will be covered, as well as professionalism related to bid development and certification, the Code of Conduct, relevant ASOPs, and bid instructions. Please note full session details will be provided to all registrants along with packet of reading materials in late October. Program ends at 5 pm local time on Tuesday November 12, 2019.
