This session will discuss the shift in behavioral services from predominantly face-to-face pre-pandemic, to a mix of face-to-face and virtual visits during the pandemic. The shift did not impact all populations uniformly, where various factors, such as urban vs. rural, income, internet access and the presence of school-aged children – among other issues – influenced one's ability to engage with a behavioral health provider. What's the long-term outlook? It's becoming better understood that mental health is a key driver of overall wellness, how can we adapt as actuaries and as a society to support the shift in effectively and equitably providing mental health services?
Attend this session and you’ll:
• Learn about mental health utilization shifts due to the COVID-19 pandemic• Understand the cost impact of that utilization shift• Apply various health actuary considerations (ex. unit cost of virtual vs. F2F visit) to the health inequities caused by the shift to certain populations
