Russell Jay Hendel, author of the paper, “A Cybernetic Metric Approach to Course Preparation” will present several effective teaching strategies based on the three core pillars listed below and then invite participants to discuss and offer additional effective teaching strategies. Three Pillars: 1. The technique should be independent of content; 2. the technique should be based on psycho-neural processes such as multiple modalities of presentation, challenging but accomplishable goal setting strategies, including focus on atomic skills, recognizing and addressing interferences; and 3. the importance of self-efficacy and its drivers (prior performances, mentors one can identify with, and positive attitudes). These pillars can be applied to: (i) Computer-assisted instruction, (ii) differentiated instruction, (iii) selection of effective homework exercises, (iv) teaching multi-parameter modules, and (v) improving any presentation by addressing multiple mind modalities.
