Control, Collaboration & Augmentation: Working with AI Webcast

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of actuarial practice, but not every task requires the same degree of human involvement. Some activities can be automated with minimal oversight, while others demand active human direction, collaboration, or complete human control. This webcast introduces a practical framework for understanding seven different modes of Human–AI collaboration, ranging from fully automated AI-generated outputs to entirely human-performed work. 

Using real actuarial examples, we will explore how the appropriate mode of supervision changes depending on the nature of the task, the complexity of the work, and the consequences of error. Participants will see how a business problem can be approached differently depending on the desired balance of speed, efficiency, reliability, and professional judgment.  

The session will take the listeners beyond the concept of Human-in-the-Loop, introducing a full Spectrum of Human-AI Collaboration. Our premise is that Control, Collaboration and Augmentation all require going beyond a simple after-the fact-review. Rather than treating AI as a single tool, the framework provides a language for discussing how humans and AI systems share work and review findings so that the human can make decisions.   

The ideas presented in this webcast will help you to think about how you can approach the critical supervision requirements raised when applying professional standards to actuaries’ work with AI. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for evaluating AI use cases, communicating the mode of human oversight applied to AI-assisted work, and how to decide where AI can safely accelerate actuarial processes vs. where professional judgment remains essential.
