Recent data shows that more than two thirds of insurance deployments use AI. Most of this use is focused on sales, onboarding, and customer management. Other data indicates that much of AI use in actuarial work centers around process improvements like coding, document summarization, and research. As we consider a world with emerging agentic and autonomous AI capabilities, we’ll want to be prepared to maintain accountability as AI integrates into more critical actuarial processes like reserving, capital management, and stress testing.
In this interactive generative AI session, we’ll go through prompts to ascertain what ethical AI principles are most relevant to actuarial work, the best actuarial resources to cross-reference for specific professionalism guidance, and review professionalism case studies to determine “what would you do” related to AI use in actuarial work. We’ll talk about the code of conduct and relevant Actuarial Standards of Practice (ASOP), and contemplate whether, and when, we need an AI-specific ASOP. Finally, we’ll talk about the best way to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving AI landscape that presents both opportunities, and risks, to our ways of working.
