Premium deficiency reserves are sometimes treated as a narrow financial reporting topic, but they sit at the intersection of pricing, reserving, financial reporting, solvency, rate review, and regulatory judgment. When expected future premiums are not sufficient to cover expected claims, expenses, and required margins for a block of business, actuaries must determine whether an additional liability is required, how assumptions should be selected, how recognition should be documented, and how management, auditors, and regulators should understand the result.
This webcast provides a practical health insurance PDR case study and connects it to broader health insurance regulatory matters, including actuarial opinions, rate filings, loss ratio dynamics, RBC/solvency considerations, market exits, and the communication responsibilities of actuaries. This session is for actuaries who want more than a formula – we will focus on judgment, governance, documentation, and how to communicate PDR findings in a way that is clear, defensible, and useful.
