Quantifying Mortality and Morbidity Impacts from Climate Risks Webcast

Climate change is emerging as a material driver of mortality and morbidity risk, challenging actuarial approaches that rely primarily on historical experience and stable long-term relationships. For life and health insurers, the implications extend beyond immediate deaths and injuries to include chronic heat stress, deteriorating air quality, changing infectious disease patterns, mental health impacts, and pressure on health care systems.

In this webinar, the presenters will introduce a practical, forward-looking framework for assessing how climate hazards interact with population exposure, vulnerability, geography, age, socioeconomic conditions, and adaptive capacity. The session will explain why climate risks are non-stationary and systemic, highlight common analytical pitfalls, and demonstrate how scenario analysis can complement traditional actuarial methods under conditions of deep uncertainty. The webinar is based on the presenter’s research work with the SOA Research Institute.
