Voluntary Benefits: Old Market, New Growth, New Complexity Webcast

Voluntary benefits and supplemental health products have moved from a niche workplace offering to a meaningful part of many employers' broader benefit strategies. At the same time, actuaries must navigate product design, pricing, benefit trigger definitions, anti-duplication considerations, claims adjudication, rate filing expectations, loss ratio standards, advertising/consumer disclosure issues, and market conduct scrutiny.

This webcast would update the themes from Dave Dillon's publicly available article on the voluntary health insurance market and his prior presentation on voluntary benefit regulatory issues. The session would focus on the actuarial and regulatory questions that make these products deceptively complex: when supplemental coverage provides genuine consumer value, when it can create confusion or overlap with major medical coverage, and how actuaries can support sound product design and defensible filings. The goal is not to promote any product line, but to help actuaries understand the regulatory, pricing, and consumer-protection issues that arise as the market continues to evolve.
