I lead AI adoption across a 3,300-person risk organization, and I see something every day that concerns me deeply.
AI is transforming how insurance and risk work gets done — pricing, valuation, capital, claims. The organizations we serve are demanding AI-enabled solutions, and they will get them from someone. The question I keep confronting is this: do actuaries have the technology depth to deliver them?
Today, too often, the honest answer is not yet. And when we can't deliver, technology firms and data scientists step in — into territory that has always been ours.
Here is what I believe: technology should not crowd actuaries out. Actuaries should own the technology. We combine quantitative rigor, risk judgment, and professional integrity in a way no algorithm and no other profession does. But that value only endures if the next generation of actuaries are technologists as much as analysts — building and governing AI-enabled solutions, not merely using tools others build.
I've lived this transition personally. I'm an actuary, an engineer, and a certified programmer. I've built and led teams of hundreds of actuaries, spent fifteen years working in the US and Canada, and today lead 200 actuarial professionals serving clients in over 40 countries from Bangalore, India. As Chair of the SOA India Committee, I've also seen the extraordinary global talent ready to carry this profession forward — if we welcome it.
As a Board member, I will bring this perspective to the SOA's strategy: a profession with the technology depth to lead the AI era, and an SOA that is truly global.
Our profession is strongest when every member votes. Whoever you support, please cast your ballot — and encourage others to do the same.
Questionnaire
Describe your interest in serving on the SOA Board of Directors, including what motivates you to pursue Board service at this time and the specific ways you believe you could add value to the organization.
I am interested in serving on the SOA Board because the actuarial profession is at a pivotal moment. AI, data science, and global interconnectedness are reshaping how actuaries create value, and the SOA has an opportunity to lead rather than follow.
My experience spans actuarial leadership in India, the US, and Canada, supporting insurers across the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. I lead AI adoption across a 3,300-person organization and oversee 200 actuarial professionals serving clients in over 40 countries.
As a long-time SOA volunteer — Chair of the India Committee, member of the International Committee and Member Leadership Advisory Council — I have seen where the profession can grow. If elected, my focus would be advancing the SOA's AI and technology agenda and accelerating international membership growth, areas where I bring direct experience and genuine conviction.
