Candidate Message

I believe actuaries are uniquely qualified to understand risk, navigate uncertainty, and develop strategies that help organizations make better decisions. Today, we face challenges ranging from aging populations and climate change to geopolitical tensions and transformative technologies. While these challenges are significant, they also create tremendous opportunities for actuaries to expand the value we bring to employers, clients, and society. 

The SOA plays a critical role in strengthening that value proposition while continuing to attract and develop the next generation of actuaries. 

I want actuaries to be recognized as the profession organizations trust to understand risk, navigate uncertainty, and develop strategies for a more resilient future. 

My vision is an SOA that prepares actuaries for that future by: 

• Continuing to evolve our credentialing and lifelong learning programs so actuaries develop the knowledge, judgment, and leadership skills needed to address emerging risks and technologies. 
• Strengthening collaboration across practice areas and around the world so members learn from one another and bring the best ideas to the profession, regardless of geography or specialty. 
• Helping actuaries embrace technologies such as AI through practical education and innovation, ensuring these tools enhance professional judgment and expand the value actuaries provide. 
• Promoting the actuarial profession to future generations by expanding outreach to students and demonstrating the exciting and meaningful opportunities available in our profession. 

I've worked as an actuary for nearly 40 years, including as a Chief Actuary, Appointed Actuary, and consultant advising organizations on how to take, manage, and share risk.  I’ve also served the SOA as a volunteer for the past 25. During that time, I've chaired the Education and Examination Committee and, for the past three years, served on the SOA Board, including time as Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee and Chair of the Finance Committee. Those experiences have given me a deep understanding of our organization and, more importantly, of the extraordinary value actuaries bring to society. 

I believe my professional and volunteer experiences have prepared me well to serve as a Presidential Officer of the SOA. I would be honored to earn your vote and the opportunity to help lead our organization forward.

Describe your interest in serving on the SOA Board of Directors, including what motivates you to pursue Board service at this time and the specific ways you believe you could add value to the organization.

I am motivated to serve because I believe the actuarial profession provides extraordinary opportunities to improve business and societal decision-making, and the SOA plays a critical role in helping actuaries thrive in a rapidly changing world. With nearly 40 years as an actuary, 25 years of SOA volunteer service, and current experience on the SOA Board, including leadership of the Audit & Risk and Finance Committees, I believe I can help the SOA navigate both opportunities and challenges facing the profession. In particular, I am passionate about helping the profession evolve beyond being viewed primarily through its credentials and toward greater recognition as a profession of strategic risk thinkers and decision-makers, especially in an era increasingly shaped by AI, analytics, and complex interconnected risks.
