Candidate Message

Last year, I asked for your trust. This year, I'm asking again with greater clarity, deeper conviction, and a clearer vision for where our profession needs to go. I spent time with actuaries across Asia, North America, and beyond, hearing what keeps you up at night, what excites you about the future, and what frustrates you about the present. What I heard was consistent. • Early-career actuaries want more room to grow and clearer paths to get there. • Global members feel like an afterthought. SOA has global reach, but too often, that reach doesn't translate into genuine connection, local relevance, or real support where it matters. • Across the profession, there is real anxiety about AI, not just about the skill gap, but also about whether our professional standards, our ethics, and our judgment will keep pace with the technology reshaping our work. 

My priorities are clear: career mobility, global collaboration, and AI-driven innovation. For you, this means:

• A credential that opens doors beyond insurance, into other financial services, technology, renewable energy, supply chain and beyond.
• Opportunities to build the career you want, regardless of where you are or where you want to go.
• Skills and professional standards that keep pace with the changing world. 

I will champion agile career pathways that prepare actuaries for any industry. I built the CFE track, creating MBA-style, case-based learning that prepares actuaries for careers beyond traditional insurance. I've lived it myself, from actuarial programming to life and annuity pricing, to wealth management, to CEO of a health insurtech and a manufacturing company. I will connect actuaries in mature and high-growth markets on real-world challenges like climate risk and AI, and open pathways into technology, renewable energy, supply chain, and government. 

I will build genuine global bridges. I was born in China, educated at Oxford, and built my career across Canada and Asia. I understand that trust in global markets builds on presence, partnership, and genuine understanding. I've served you on the SOA Board, co-authored the 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, chaired the International Committee, and currently serve as Vice Chair of the Career Development Community. I've advocated for regional offices, strengthened candidate pipelines in Asia, and supported CAE expansion in mainland China and HK. If elected, I will push for deeper regional partnerships, stronger university collaborations, and governance structures that make every member, from North America to Asia, from Europe to emerging markets, feel genuinely valued. 

And I will lead with discipline on AI and emerging technology. I've scaled AI-powered platforms with rigorous model validation and bias audits. I know technology must serve people first. I will ensure our skills and professional standards keep pace with innovation, so our credential remains indispensable. 

Why me? I bring a true global and entrepreneurial perspective. My journey is agile. I've moved across industries, across continents, and across roles, from actuary to entrepreneur, from insurance to technology and manufacturing. I understand what it takes to adapt, pivot, and thrive. I've also spent over a decade serving you and building communities, on the SOA Board, as creator and General Officer of the CFE track, and in leadership roles including Career Development Community Vice Chair, International Section Council member, and Actuaries of the Future Council member. I'm seeking to build a future where every actuary feels seen, valued, and unbounded.

Describe your interest in serving on the SOA Board of Directors, including what motivates you to pursue Board service at this time and the specific ways you believe you could add value to the organization.

I’ve been a devoted SOA volunteer since 2012 serving as Board member, Career Development Community Vice Chair, CFE Curriculum General Officer, and sections’ council member. I was the endorsed candidate for President Elect last year. Though not elected, that experience only deepened my commitment to our profession. I believe actuaries don’t just adapt to change. We define it. I want to help by empowering actuaries at every career stage, expanding global partnerships with regulators and business leaders, and fostering new practice areas from emerging risk to business leadership.

As CEO of an insurtech, I drive insurance innovation through food-as-underwriting. I launched Canada's first Indexed Universal Life (IUL), led actuarial transformation across Asia, and reshaped a manufacturing strategy. I want to be a role model for actuaries branching beyond insurance because our future is limitless.
