Society of Actuaries Recognizes Actuarial Program at Brigham Young University

Schaumburg, IL (December 6, 2018) – The Society of Actuaries(SOA) named the actuarial science program from Brigham Young University as one of the SOA’s Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE). Based in Provo, Utah, Brigham Young University joins the ranks of 32 other universities around the world with this prestigious designation from the SOA.

University actuarial science programs may apply for the CAE designation, which recognizes outstanding programs in the field. To qualify for the designation, university programs must meet eight rigorous criteria and specific CAE requirements. These criteria involve the degree, curriculum, graduate count, faculty composition, graduate quality, appropriate integration, connection to industry and research/scholarships. Universities with this designation are eligible for CAE-specific education and research grants from the SOA among other benefits.

The list of CAE universities also includes four universities in Australia, eight universities in Canada, one university in China, two universities in Hong Kong, one university in the United Kingdom, and sixteen other universities in the United States. See the online listing of universities and colleges with actuarial programs.

Schools retain the CAE designation for a five-year period, subject to their conformity to the CAE criteria. Visit  for more details about the CAE.
