Description: Various studies suggest that the baby boomers have not saved sufficiently to provide for their retirement (e.g., CIA 2007). It is anticipated that the baby boomers will have to liquidate some or all of their assets to supplement their retirement income. This paper estimates the likely size of the asset liquidation and estimates the impact that an asset liquidation of such magnitude may have on asset prices.

Description: When companies engage in risk management activities, they can be seen as modifying their distributions of future outcomes. Often, this takes the form of trading off a sure cost for a decrease in some potential risk of loss. Companies may carry out these activities with several goals in mind, such as reduction in earnings volatility or preservation of capital. This paper will demonstrate a method for evaluating possible strategies by dividing the effects on costs and risks into three tranches: earnings, impact and estate. The tranches can be associated with different interests of the various stakeholders. This trifurcation analysis can help to explain the risk-reward trade-offs of different risk treatment alternatives and can aid in risk-related decisionmaking.

Life insurance is also a social good, not just a product, and the US population is massively underinsured. Pricing must strike a balance. Unlike a simple 4x4 matrix to produce pricing, today's technology offers the ability to evaluate literally thousands of variables, enabling a kind of precision pricing. It also heightens the possibility of introducing bias and discrimination through the use of unregulated third-party data.
