Description: This presentation is a concurrent session from the 1980 Meeting of the Society of Actuaries, held April 14-15 in Hartford, Connecticut. The panelists discuss basic concepts, such as definition and reasons for risk classification, availability vs. pricing class, equality vs. equity -special interest groups, appropriate factors for classification, and controllable vs. non-controllable factors. They also discuss American Academy of Actuaries work on risk classification, regulation, future company practice, including preferred risk, non-smoker, guaranteed issue etc., substandard practices, reinsurance, changing trends in underwriting, privacy laws, and related topics. Description: Isolated T-wave abnormalities - that is, abnormal T waves in an otherwise normal electrocardiogram - are a difficult finding to evaluate and one on which there is no unanimity, either on their significance or on what constitutes an abnormal T wave. In this study, the author has concluded that even minor T wave abnormalities require a rating and that T-wave abnormalities almost always indicate heart disease is present or will soon become manifest.

Description: This panel discussion session looked at recent and proposed regulation of life insurance underwriting. Specific topics included: i. Problems with traditional underwriting classifications: privacy, disclosure, anti-discrimination, etc. 2. It was sponsored by the Committee on Life Insurance Research, Marketing and Distribution and Product Development Sections of the Society of Actuaries and the research was conducted by Deloitte. The report covers many aspects of how much industry interest there is for automated underwriting systems, the goals life insurers seek to accomplish in using them, how the automated systems function, and how successfully they perform.
