Description: This presentation, session number 100PD, took place at the 1999 Spring Meeting of the Society of Actuaries, held June 16-18 in Seattle. “The actuarial profession is coming under increasing pressure, both internally and externally, to release more pension-related standards. The Pension Committee of the Actuarial Standards Board has responded and is in the process of completing up to four new standards by the end of 1999.” The panelists discuss the recently released Domestic Relations Standards second specific draft and the Demographic Assumptions Standard. Ongoing concerns are reviewed, such as how to write a standard that is not overly restrictive or does not target the appropriate audience. Discussion from participants is included. Description: This presentation is an open forum from the 1991 Annual Meeting of the Society of Actuaries, held October 20-23 in Toronto. The speakers, members of the Pension Committee of the Actuarial Standards Board [ASB], present an update on the ASB’s exposure drafts of actuarial standards of practice intended to provide detailed guidance on setting economic assumptions for pension plans. The session is concerned with selecting actuarial assumptions, specifically economic assumptions, for measuring pension obligations. The speakers note that in addition to providing guidance to actuaries, the standards are designed to help users of our work product understand what actuaries consider in determining their assumptions. Description: From a session at a meeting of the Society of Actuaries held in San Diego, CA, June 22-23, 2000 This session presented the results of a survey of the U.S. actuarial profession conducted by the Committee on Professional Responsibility of the American Academy of Actuaries. This survey asked questions relating to the individual actuary's awareness of and familiarly with the Code of Professional Conduct, Actuarial Standards of Practice, and qualification standards, as well as understanding of the activities of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline.
