May 2015

From the EAS Chairperson

Tom2Hello everyone, I am the newly elected chairperson for the EAS section for 2015.  I look forward to supporting the entrepreneurs in our section. First of all, I would like to highlight our new mission statement:

The purpose of the Entrepreneurial Actuaries Section is to release the innovative spirit of members interested in developing entrepreneurial activities.

Our activities revolve around that mission.

Secondly, I want to highlight the education sessions that EAS is sponsoring at the annual SOA meeting:

  • “Business Model Canvas similar to Walter’s progress in AMC’s Breaking Bad.” This session will help companies analyze business opportunities
  • “Spreadsheet Best Practices or How to Avoid Epic Spreadsheet Fails.”  We are working with the Modeling Section on this session.
  • “Shark Tank-EAS Style.” This will be an interactive session. Entrepreneurs will pitch their services to the audience and to a ruthless panel.

Stephen Camilli has been working hard at putting together a fun session that entrepreneurs would find enlightening. If anyone would like to volunteer to speak, please let Stephen know at stephen@actexmadriver.com. Pauline Reimer is organizing a reception for the group, we hope you can attend to meet fellow section members. More details to follow.

If you have any ideas or thoughts, please let me know.  Thank you.
