In Memory of Richard Middleton

Richard A. Middleton, FSA 1974, a lifelong resident of New York City, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026. Rich grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where he graduated from Erasmus Hall High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Brooklyn College, served in the U.S. Army at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). He was employed as a consulting actuary at Buck Consultants for many years.

A long-time resident of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Rich enjoyed traveling, reading, taking economics and history courses, and spending time with family and friends.

Rich is survived by his beloved companion, Helen McMahon. They were together for nearly forty years.

Rich is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Bromwell; four nephews, Ray Middleton, Chris Middleton, Jeff Bromwell, and Brian Middleton; five nieces, Valerie Decoteau, Michelle Middleton, Laura Sonnenday, Claire Bromwell, and Julie Smith; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Rich was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Middleton, and by his three brothers, Alfred, Raymond, and Lawrence.
