Future mortality improvement is an important assumption in the valuation of life insurance. In this session, presenters will discuss the work of the Life Mortality Improvements Subgroup (LMISG) of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) Mortality and Longevity Oversight Advisory Council (MLOAC) developing mortality improvement scales for individual life insurance. In addition, an update on the SOA Research Institute's Mortality Improvement Model (MIM-2021) will be presented. At the conclusion of the session, attendees will be able to: - Better understand industry activities around developing mortality improvement projection scales for life insurance - Better understand the work being done by the LMISG and its impact on actuarial practice - Better understand MIM-2021 and why a consistent framework for projecting mortality improvement can be helpful, what it is, and how it might be used
