As actuaries, we perform actuarial services for our employers or clients. Sometimes, these services become part of formal public discussions, while other times, our actuarial work may be explicitly intended as expert testimony. In either case, it is imperative that the actuary be able to explain their findings clearly, both in the public setting (which is not the actuary's typical work environment) and to the public audience (who may not have the same background as the actuary's usual clientele).
In this session, attendees will learn practical approaches to prepare their testimony in particular, as well as techniques to develop their soft skills in general. We will also review professionalism considerations, including the Code of Conduct and relevant ASOPs. Perspectives from various stakeholders will be discussed along with case studies.
