Hospital costs have been rising faster than inflation, and many hospitals are operating at negative margins. To address this, payers have been exploring hospital global budgets (HGBs) over the past decade as a strategy to contain costs and provide stable payments. Six states intend to participate in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation All-Payer Health Equity Approaches and Development (AHEAD) Model, where global budgets are a major component. In this session, we will delve into the critical aspects of evaluating whether HGB can be suitable for a given hospital.
At the conclusion of the session, attendees will be able to assess the feasibility of HGB for a hospital given their context and the major design elements in the methodology.
