On July 1, 2023, CMS began their latest Medicare Oncology program, Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM) which was the successor to the previous Oncology Care Model (OCM). Despite a high level of interest during the application period, this model has been met with limited participation, with only 44 participants at the start of the program. During this session, we plan to provide an overview of the program design, a summary of reactions from the provider community addressing low participation, and recommendations for how to improve adoption in the future. Further, we see this program as a case study in the current status of value-based care programs in the US, and some of the inherent challenges which need to be overcome. Learning outcomes for this session include: Understanding of the current CMS EOM program design and risk provisions Status of program adoption, and challenges to broader participation Areas for improvement to increase participation
