2015-2024 Group Long-Term Disability Claim Termination Study Data Request

The Group Disability Experience Committee (GDEC) of the Society of Actuaries Research Institute is requesting Group Long-Term Disability (LTD) claim termination experience data for the years 2015 to 2024.

The SOA Research Institute and LIMRA plan to complete an update to the 2019 Group Long-Term Disability Experience Study, which studied claim terminations. The goals of this update are to:

  • compare recent LTD claim termination experience with experience from the prior study (2009-2017 experience);
  • compare recent LTD claim termination experience with the 2012 Group LTD valuation table;
  • support the potential development of updates to the current Group LTD valuation table, if warranted;
  • analyze LTD claim experience with regard to the impact of Social Security approval on claim termination rates;
  • provide LTD insurers with updated data for use in benchmarking their own experience and in setting pricing and valuation assumptions;
  • support research for the development of predictive and other models that can be used for financial projections and analysis

In an effort to ensure these important industry studies can be funded on a sustainable basis, the SOA Research Institute and LIMRA are offering the detailed outputs of this work as part of a paid subscription to Experience Studies Pro.

The following may be included in the outputs made available for subscribers:

  • detailed experience study report with analysis and commentary;
  • a set of data visualization dashboards with the ability to filter on and drill down into the detail of the results of the study;
  • dataset(s) containing the aggregated experience collected for the purpose of this study. The datasets may be made available in excel files, text files or downloads from the data visualization tool;
  • models or other tools developed to support the analyses completed in the study; and
  • other outputs as determined by the SOA Research Institute and LIMRA.
