Description: This article is based on a recent high face amount mortality study completed for the SOA. The data was derived from the Milliman Industry Mortality Study and Analysis (MIMSA), a recent comprehensive life insurance industry study of mortality and lapse. There were a number of interesting findings in the high face amount study, several of which are discussed in this article.

Description: The Mortality Improvement Survey Subcommittee of the Society's Committee on Life Insurance Mortality & Underwriting Surveys has completed its report on the results of a survey to examine mortality improvement practices with respect to life insurance pricing in both the US and Canada. A few questions were asked about functions other than pricing.

Since the publication of the report, actuaries have become increasingly interested in using mortality rates that reflect adjustments for collar or benefit amount. This supplement addresses that interest by providing additional applicable tables.
