Description: This event is intended to provide an opportunity for members of the Actuary of the Future and Predictive Analytics and Futurism sections to network with other members, as well as a format to provide an opportunity to discuss hot topics in either/both sections. Description: There have been a variety of proposals related to expanding eligibility for Medicare, ranging from a publicly funded program to a full buy-in option. This session will explore the actuarial implications of various buy-in proposals and the potential impact that such policy changes could have on the health care market landscape. In particular, we will discuss the ways in which program eligibility requirements, plan designs, provider reimbursement arrangements, network design, rating rules, and subsidies could affect premium levels and membership volume in a Medicare buy-in market, as well as the potential side effects on providers and existing health care markets.

Description: This reinsurance refresh session will review different types of reinsurance, main reinsurance regulations and resources, key reinsurance treaty provisions, as well as recent developments in reinsurance. We will also introduce LEARN, an education initiative sponsored by the SOA Reinsurance Section to help improve communication with regulators.

Description: MHPAEA prohibits health plans from imposing financial requirements or treatment limitations on behavioral health benefits that are more restrictive than those applied to medical and surgical benefits. MHPAEA's regulations define treatment limitations to include nonquantitative treatment limitations (NQTLs), which are benefit design features that are not numerical, but otherwise limit the scope or duration of benefits.

Description: Experienced actuaries will discuss various ethical problems faced by retirement actuaries in everyday practice. Actuaries practicing in other consulting disciplines will find the broad concepts of dealing with these retirement-specific scenarios instructive in dealing with the ethical dilemmas that may occur in their business.

Description: Since the world in which actuaries work is both expanding (through 'data science' opportunities) and contracting (since 'data scientists' are doing work formerly done by actuaries), the role of education actuaries is at a tipping point. Members of the Society who are in higher education and representatives from the business community will discuss ways in which the two worlds of business and education have worked together in the past, what can be done by each group to assist the other, and what the future may hold.
